9wk, 36 wk Players & Priority, League Subs
Our league offers a ton of flexibility and automatic subs for players. If you’ve ever run or played in a league where you are responsible to find a sub, you know this can be a time-consuming and overwhelming process. The system for automating sub-selection is complicated involving many factors. We are in the process of changing the Algorithm that automatically determines a Player or Subs Right-To-Play (RTP). Today from highest to lowest, 9wk players then 36wk players, then Priority Subs then League Subs.
This change might affect 9-week players that never miss. Last year subs replaced regular players 63 times and 5 times a regular 36wk player sat out. The number of 36wk players in our league is changing so we are adjusting the RTP Algorithm to cover this new variation. If this topic interest you, please post your suggestions.
Benefits:
9 week players are at the front of the RTP Algorithm get the benefit of the nine week short term comment.
36-week players get a 25% discount which translates into missing roughly 2.25 times per nine weeks and falls behind 9wk players.
Priority Subs are the first to play when a sub is needed.
League Subs are a huge part of making our league successful to ensure we have 4 players on every court. It’s been a great way of introducing new players or our league. They sit at the bottom of the RTP Algorithm and play for free
Problems:
9 week players create 4 times additional administrative/accounting work, in addition, the challenge of making sure we have enough players every 9 weeks to cover the cost. In the past, we’ve often run short for part or all of the 9 weeks. We need a way to cover that shortfall.
36 week players are not on parity with 9 week players if they miss more than 2 weeks/per 9wks, or have a block of future weeks that they will miss.
Priority Subs contribute funds to cover the league but at par with Regular players to match court fees and the number of times played.
League subs don’t contribute funds, as the regulars cover their court/league fees.

Thanks for the clarification on this matter. Makes it easy to understand. I would like to make sure if a 36 week player knows in advance that they would be off it would that it would count for the 2.25 times they would be off in a nine week period if possible. Also just making sure if you don’t get on, as a 36 week paying player does it automatically figure in the calculations or do we need to mark ourselves unavailable to play. Thanks!
Yes, the system keeps track of regular players scheduled to play but sits out. You do not need to mark yourself off as unavailable.
Given the upcoming changes to the RTP algorithm, would there ever be a case were a regular player (either 9 or 36-week paid player) would be taken off the scheduled and a priority sub take their place? In other words, would an attempt be made to fill 100% of the available slots first with regular players before going to priority subs?
Regular players are always placed at the front of the RTP Algorithm and it’s impossible for a Priority Sub to be placed ahead of regular players.
